Hong Kong Stools.

During my time as a guest teacher at the Hong Kong Design Institute in the autumn of 2019 I noticed very particular, locally-made stainless-steel doors everywhere in Hong Kong and decided to design a stool using the same steel-profile and pattern. I wanted it to look as if it would have always been right there.

A small edition of three was produced with a local manufacturer on Shanghai Street in Yau Ma Tei that usually only makes doors.

Hong Kong is a very unique place. Usable space is limited by nature and rapid growth has forced people in HK to think vertical and to build higher and higher for decades. As everything has to be stacked in order to fit - from flats to furniture it was a very natural decision to design a stacking stool.

The stool is welded from a square 25x25x1.2mm stainless steel profile which makes it extremely sturdy but lightweight.

Stacks up to 5.

Naturally, stainless-steel does not require further treatment to resist corrosion and weather so it is a very care free piece of furniture to leave outside all year round.

Yet,I also really like it powder-coated!
